Suwanee, GA. April 20, 2020 – Local restoration company providing mobile decontamination unit for critical shortage of N95 face masks that block the coronavirus. Based on Duke Health research (now CDC & FDA approved) R4 Restoration is using vaporized hydrogen peroxide methods to decontaminate the masks so they can be reused.

The process uses specialized equipment, which R4Restoration has previously been using in mold decontamination, to vaporize hydrogen peroxide, which permeates the layers of the mask to kill germs, including viruses, without degrading the mask material.

This is a decontamination technology and method used for years in biocontainment laboratories.

“We have used the same process and equipment for Emergency Response vehicles, hospitals and Fire Stations, but had never considered needing it for something like face masks. When we saw the Duke University study proving it works on face masks, we converted one of our trailers into a mobile decontamination unit,” said Jeremy Brimer, owner of R4Restoration.

The decontamination process requires specialized equipment that vaporizes the hydrogen peroxide, and a closed facility where the masks can be exposed to the vapor. No toxic byproducts result, because hydrogen peroxide breaks down to water.

The ability to reuse the crucial N95 masks will boost the first responders ability to continue providing needed services to essential workers during this time of critical shortages of N95 masks.
